Welcoming Mark Selcow

Nov 5, 2015

Greg Sands, Founder & Managing Partner

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Mark Selcow has joined Costanoa as a Venture Partner. Mark has been a great friend since 1992 when we met at graduate school. For much of this time, he worked closely with Matt Glickman who also remains a friend of the firm. Ironically, the two of them were leaders for our Outdoor Adventure orientation and immediately got the group lost and split up at night in Yosemite National Park. One could also blame Kris Hagerman (CEO of Sophos) whose relentless desire to go farther and faster likely split the group as well.

Mark and Matt went on to start and run BabyCenter, one of the great consumer businesses of Internet 1.0, and then to Merced Systems, the leader in Call Center Performance Management, in which I was fortunate to be a part of as an investor before it was sold to NICE Systems.

Mark is a highly successful two-time entrepreneur who has a great deal to offer both to Costanoa and to our portfolio. Venture Partner can mean a lot of things, so to clarify, Mark will be able to sponsor new investments at Costanoa as well as work closely with some of our portfolio companies.

Mark is an incredibly incisive and clear thinker. He understands products and markets across the spectrum. As an entrepreneur, Mark was my model for founder led sales and the sales learning curve. Mark and I have learned a lot together over the years and I couldn’t be more excited to have him contributing and learning alongside us during the next phase of the journey.
